Today, Sony Santa Monica Studio announced that its latest action-adventure game, God of War Ragnarok, has sold 11 million copies.
He advertisement It specifically mentions that we’re talking about a direct sales figure, which means that those 11 million copies have been sold to customers and not simply shipped to retailers.
The game has been released on November 9, 2022, so these sales have been achieved in less than three months, which is certainly flattering for an exclusive game available only on PS5 and PS4.
If you’re unfamiliar with the game, it’s the sequel to the studio’s critically acclaimed 2018 God of War, continuing the story of Kratos and his son Atreus after the titular god of war moves from Greece to the snowy lands of the The Far North series debuted in 2005 with the original game on PlayStation 2, but it’s changed radically since 2018’s game.
Interestingly, Sony is hosting its quarterly financial conference call tomorrow morning, so the timing of the sales announcement is not surprising. The game will most likely be mentioned as an example of PlayStation success to the audience of investors and analysts during the event.
At the moment, we don’t know what Sony Santa Monica plans as its next game, and if we’re going to see a third game in the God of War “Nordic saga” any time soon. Four years passed between the reveal of God of War and God of War Ragnarok, with the second game being teased in 2020 and then officially announced in 2021, so we’ll probably have to wait quite a while to find out what’s next for Kratos and Atreus.
