Genshin Impact developer HoYoverse hails from China, so it’s obvious that Lunar New Year is of particular importance to them. Today they are celebrating with the release of not one, but two videos.

The first video focuses on the Lantern Rite to celebrate the new year and features many of the game’s characters as they celebrate in their own way. Among them, we see Xinyan and Hu Yao giving a small musical performance. The choice of characters is likely to be non-random, as Xinyan is included in the wishes of the current event, while Hu Tao will return with the next round on February 7th.

You can watch it below, and you can also watch the japanese versionwhich comes with a great musical performance from the voice actresses of the two characters, Chiaki Takahashi and Rie Takahashi.

While the Lantern Rite scene can certainly be emotional, the next video may hit it squarely. It’s a story trailer that delves into the game’s lore and sheds more light on Guizhong, the late goddess of dust and a good friend of Madame Ping and Zhongli.

You can see it below.

If you’re not familiar with Genshin Impact, it’s currently available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, iOS, and Android. A Nintendo Switch version was announced a long time ago, but HoYoverse fell under the radar and hasn’t said anything since, despite confirming multiple times that it wasn’t cancelled. We will have to wait and see if 2023 will finally be the year of Genshin on the Nintendo console.

We are currently on update 3.4, but we already know the characters that will be coming with update 3.5, which will be released around February 28. This slightly longer wait for the next version shouldn’t surprise you, as Chinese New Year celebrations are often quite disruptive to working hours in the country.
