CD Projekt Red has released a new update for cyberpunk 2077 which adds the much talked about Ray Tracing: Overdrive Mode feature… to a select number of graphics cards. As you can imagine, if you’re still running an Nvidia GeForce RTX 20-series card, then you’re out of luck and only a 30-series card is supported.
On on Steam, CD Projekt Red shares more information about its new route tracking update, which was revealed earlier this month and detailed in more detail in a Behind the Setup video last week. The update “pushes the boundaries of what’s possible in technology,” according to the developer, so you’ll probably only be able to take full advantage of it if you have a state-of-the-art graphics card.
Ray Tracing: Overdrive mode is only available for the RTX 40 series, which means the RTX 4070 Ti and above. You can also check if you have an RTX 3090, but only at 1080p and capped at 30fps. Oh. The rationale for CDPR is that route tracking is a “state of the art feature” and therefore requires the best available hardware to function. It’s off by default, so you won’t have to worry about accidentally cooking your gear.

However, all is not completely lost if you have a lower-spec graphics card. If you’re running a ray tracing capable card with at least 8GB of VRAM, then there’s a new track-route screenshot feature that allows you to render a single frame (yes, single frame) with track-route with the order to take a screenshot. When people talk about high specs to turn their games into slideshows, it sounds like they’re not kidding.
Other changes in patch 1.62 include the addition of the DLAA anti-aliasing mode, which is powered by AI. You’ll need an RTX card to test that too. Support for Intel XeSS 1.1 has been added and a number of benchmarking enhancements have also been implemented. It’s a pretty technical upgrade overall; There isn’t a lot of new content, but if you have a high spec machine and like to game then this is for you.
